So sorry to hear about this. It seems like it's more of a problem with the proofing process than it is with your work. The mistake is more a reflection of the "process" and less of your ability to complete a project successfully. Good luck with your next position and hopefully you'll be in a place with the tools to help you grow within the company :)
I think you did the right thing. You were miserable and it was time to move on. I'm actually amazed at how well you handled yourself - I would've scratched MNP's fucking eyes out!
what an awful story! that sucks. hope you've been able to spend the weekend recovering and celebrating your newfound freedom... sure weren't kidding when you told me the office politics were out of control.
